Everything is blooming in Santa Barbara and the birds are chirping away. We have been picking protea from our yard and watching the stone fruit in our urban orchard get bigger and almost ready to harvest. We went SUP and kayaking this last weekend with friends from Steamboat Springs who are returning home to snow…here it feels like the start of Summer!
In the wild world of real estate, the market does not appear to be slowing down at all. Recently on my street, two original condition homes sold for $2,400,000 and $2,600,000 and were the same floor plan as the one we bought 7 years ago for $1,050,000! The median home price nationally is up 15% over last year and here in Santa Barbara up 19% at $1,775,000 for the median. A new record!
Being from here and representing many local buyers and sellers is the best. I love it when humans care and listen to one another and appreciate where the other side is coming from. It makes my heart happy when a local seller that is ready to downsize or move out of the area is engaged in the process and wants to sell their home to another group of locals over an investor or 2nd or 3rd home owner.
There is no getting around the fact that real estate in Santa Barbara is expensive. Our backyards are our extended living spaces, our garages are our pantries and gear rooms! This town is so special and I am so lucky to have grown up here and returned home to raise my boys in our community.
