We are incredibly blessed to live here in Santa Barbara and look forward to giving back in many ways this holiday season.
Here are a few of the upcoming events that my family will be participating in and we would love for you to join us!
Please keep me posted about other events that we should know about too…
Family Day Mandarin Glean! (South County)
Sat, December 7, 9 am – 12 pm
(there are two other ones too but my boys will be in school those hours…)
What is a “glean” you might ask…well so glad you did, please see below!
glean: /ɡlēn/ verb
gerund or present participle: gleaning extract (information) from various sources.
“the information is gleaned from press clippings”
Similar: obtain, get, take, draw, derive, extract, cull, garner, gather, reap, select, choose, pick, learn, find out, collect gradually and bit by bit.”objects gleaned from local markets”
We are signed up for the one on Saturday that is great for kiddos* (I would say 6 and up since there are clippers involved…)
and plenty of mandarins to snack on too!
Wear long sleeves, bring your own clippers and gloves(if you have them, or else they will provide some but they sometimes run out)and even a little folding chair to sit on when you pick the low hanging fruit!
Here are the details from their post:
Come join the Backyard Bounty team to glean fresh, local mandarins in beautiful Santa Barbara! This is a wonderful opportunity to get involved with local agriculture, learn about a new fruit or vegetable, meet new people, and give back to your community!
Last Beach Cleanup of 2019

We love clean beaches! If you do, too, let’s make our last cleanup of 2019 HUGE! Join us on Sunday, December 8th, at 10:00 am at Arroyo Burro Beach.
Meet at the Watershed Resource Center before the cleanup for supplies
(bring your own gloves and trash bags if you have them!).
Pre-registration is advised, but not necessary.
