Once Upon A Time The Green Builder Built A Green House…
Dennis Allen of Allen Construction Lists His Personal Mission Canyon Residence For Sale
Imagine living in a home that is filled with natural light, surrounded by mature oak trees, moments away from some of Santa Barbara’s most incredible trails and offered for sale for the first time since it was built.
This is a location that was carefully chosen by the eco-conscious owners and nestled at the foot of the Santa Barbara mountains on approximately .44 of an acre. The home was designed and built by the preeminent green builder in our community; Dennis Allen founder of Allen Construction.
Take a moment to admire and take in the thoughtful processes that Dennis and his wife Jenny considered when creating the home they lived in for 30 years. This location was the “birthplace” of their business; Allen Construction which continues to be one of the most prominent and well respected construction companies in our community and at the forefront of building sustainably.
In fact, the only reason that Dennis and Jenny moved “down the mountain” almost 10 years ago was so that they could continue on their eco-voyage and become almost completely car-free with Dennis giving up his car completely! The only place they could conceive of going after living in this naturally inspired sanctuary, was to design and build Victoria Mews, featured on architectural tours and that the Santa Barbara Independent has written articles about and called the “Greenest House Ever”.
From this elevation in Mission Canyon, the views of the Santa Barbara Channel Islands are framed by the mature oak trees situated on the property and the ocean seem salmost close enough to touch over the rolling hills that continue down the canyon towards the water.
Should you be the type that appreciates a sunrise hike, run or bike ride, your playground is just moments from the front door. Perhaps a sunset walk for a picnic or full moon gathering to take in all that our gorgeous town has to offer from Inspiration Peak is more your style. With Summer already upon us, taking a dip in the ‘Seven Falls’ trail pools beckons with the weather.
All that this house and location represent and is surrounded by is waiting to be explored, appreciated and loved.
Built in 1983 and tucked away amongst the trees, the home is approximately 2,117 square feet. Comprised of 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, one with a sunken bath-tub plus an additional studio space below the main residence. The house has a very tranquil and peaceful vibe and many decks off of the two levels connect the space even more to the natural world.
The wood floors throughout are a mix of Douglas fir as well as hemlock and every surface has been finished with non-toxic materials. Well thought out airflow options exist throughout the home and radiant heat on demand individually controlled thermostats along with the wood burning stove make the home very cozy.
The setting is wooded and there are raised gardens and plenty of fruit trees including guava, persimmon, pomegranate, peach, apricot, nectarine, fig, lemons and the vibrantly blooming jacaranda!
This home has never before been offered on the market.
