I love the process of helping first-time buyers purchase property in my hometown. It is even more fun when they are not from Santa Barbara and we get to have a tour of the town and go over the correct pronunciation of “Anapamu” and debate the differences between “Cabrillo”, “Castillo” and “Carrillo”. The buyers that purchased this amazing home were from Boston and we had a great time and laughed a lot!

This house just feels quintessentially Santa Barbara and the minute I walked in the walled yard, I fell in love. Luckily my clients did too and after touring properties for just one day, they decided to put in an offer and it was accepted!

Located close to Oak Park, and even more important to my clients, Cottage Hospital for their careers, this house was turn-key and ready to move right into.

The stone capped wall surrounding the yard perched above the street makes for a very private and pet-friendly yard and the two towering palm trees, already adorned with twinkle lights illuminating the outside table and umbrella made really set the mood for what awaited us inside.

In addition to the delightful main house, there is a detached, permitted one bedroom, one bathroom studio with doors leading to the patio as well as to the backyard. In the past this space has been used as a home office, a granny flat and with the permitting status, a buyer could explore the options of this being an income-generating option.

The backyard, located behind the studio is spacious with a pad poured for a hot tub and there are orange, apple, lime, lemon, plum and fig trees all adding to the ambiance.

The listing agent, who was wonderful to work with, described the house perfectly as having “old world charm”. Complete with crown molding, oak hardwood flooring, cast iron tub, and original windows.

The De La Vina corridor, just moments away really is a hip and fun place to hang out these days. Local favorites like Handlebar, Yellow Belly, Los Agaves HandleBar Coffee and Trader Joes are all right there!

Built in 1925, there are 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom and a remodeled kitchen with all new appliances. Sometimes you walk into a house and it just feels good and this was definitely one of those times!

As a closing gift, I bought them the hilarious “How To Santa Barbara” book written by Erin Graffy as well as “The Book of Santa Barbara” by Macduff Everton and an essay by Pico Iyer as well as a gift certificate to their new neighborhood coffee shop, HandleBar on De La Vina. That part of Santa Barbara is HAPPENING and there are all sorts of yummy places within walking distance for them to enjoy.

Welcome to Santa Barbara and congratulations on the house!
